Where is yngol barrow
Continue following the icy passage as it twists and turns until there is a turn to the north, where ahead you will see two more upright sarcophagi; the sarcophagus to the right has a dead draugr behind the lid, with the passage onward to the right of it.
The passage opens into a room with three rotating pillars in alcoves on either side and a closed gate ahead with a lever in front of it. The rotating stone puzzle is solved by reading Notes on Yngol Barrow , found on the dead scholar in front of the gate. The notes include a translation describing three animals in their habitats.
To your right, as you face the locked gate, you will find an alcove with a throne, and an alcove with running water: the pillar in this alcove must be turned to the Whale symbol. On the opposite side, there is an alcove covered in weeds and plants: its pillar must be turned to the Snake symbol.
The pillar in the last alcove, with sunlight shining through, must be turned to the Eagle symbol. The throne opposite the sunlit pillar requires no action on your part. Pull the lever once you have positioned the pillars correctly to continue. Beyond the gate are some catacombs, with two large urns opposite behind a pedestal that may hold the coral dragon claw see also below.
The passage turns to the north and becomes an icy tunnel, which passes through some shallow water before descending and entering a natural cavern with a bridge crossing a pool. Underwater beneath the middle arch of the bridge is an unlocked chest and a burial urn.
Across the bridge is an iron door, with flights of stairs leading down behind. At the bottom is a gate with a lit brazier behind. The Helm of Winterhold can be found here, to complete a quest initiated either by the female merchant Birna in Birna's Oddments or the Jarl of Winterhold. To complete the dungeon, you have to own the Coral Dragon Claw , sold to you either by the female merchant in Winterhold after inquiring about her business and following the subsequent dialog, or found inside the dungeon on a dead researcher.
There is a bug that prevents completing the dungeon, while not hampering the quest for retrival of the helm, where instead of the ghostly form of Yngol after whom the Barrow is named you will face a powerful Draugr instead. The Helm of Winterholt will thus be found in the chest in front of the throne in the last room, instead of looted from the head of Yngol's Skeleton.
Apparently, the looting of the Helm from the Skeleton is the trigger for the last door to open. The Notes describe which the pillars should be set to which glyph. Eventually to face Yngol's Shade. One last barrier remains, a dragon claw puzzle which requires the Coral Claw. Inspect the Coral Claw. Select the Snake glyph for the outer ring, the Wolf glyph for the middle ring, and the Moth glyph for the inner ring, then insert the claw into the keyhole in the centre. Head all the way down to the waterfront, and look to the right.
There should be a sizable outcropping of rock, at the base of which is the door leading to the opposite end of Yngol Barrow. PC Fix One can also use the console command tcl to pass through.
If one tries to complete the "Helm of Winterhold" quest after completing the Imperial path for the Civil War , the Dragonborn cannot give the helm to Korir , as he will speak.
PC When arriving at the gate with the pillar puzzle, all three of the pillars might be set to the hawk emblem, and they might not respond when using the "Activate" prompt. This can be fixed by re-entering the Barrow. If one kills Yngol's shade by shooting through the last gate, having accessed it via the door on the surface, Yngol's skeleton and the helm might be invisible when one reaches the final chamber coming from the front.
All that can be seen will be Yngol's skull hovering in the air above the throne chair. However, the prompt to take the helm will still be given. Upon doing this, the skeleton will reappear and the last gate will open. PC PS3 When arriving at the dragon claw door it may not activate, thus leaving the Dragonborn locked out of the final room. The issue can be resolved by going to the home screen then restarting the game.
PS3 When speaking to the dragon priest, there is a chance that the Dragonborn may not be able to complete the quest.
His dialogue freezes and the quest will remain within the miscellaneous quest listing. Sometimes, the dragon claw will not insert into the door, even though the sequence is correct. If the Dragonborn is doing the quest " Trouble in Skyrim " for The Companions and only have to kill the draugr death overlord, this can be solved by going in the back entrance and killing him with spells; however, one may not be able to retrieve his helmet.
This prevents acquisition of Yngol's Helm and the unlocking of the rear exit. Items placed in one will appear in the other, but stolen items will not show their stolen status; however they will still be stolen when the Dragonborn takes them back.
